This portfolio honors my brother’s courage and resilience following his Crohn’s disease diagnosis at age 14, a chronic illness that aggressively affects the intestines. Despite its challenges, he has shown remarkable mental and emotional strength, refusing to let the disease confine him to the sidelines. Through these images, I aim to illuminate the physical and emotional toll of Crohn’s while highlighting a path forward. This work celebrates his quiet determination, fosters empathy, and raises awareness for those living with chronic illness. The collages trace my brother’s journey, from significant weight loss and a sudden school change to the gradual rebuilding of his strength. Drawing from my mother’s meticulous records, the pieces incorporate notations and photos capturing his doctor’s visits, search for answers, and fleeting relief from a condition that can flare unpredictably. This visual narrative reflects both the challenges and the enduring hope of his experience, advocating for others who face similar silent struggles.
